Breathedge 2 Developers Overhaul Gameplay Based on Feedback

Following extensive feedback, the developers of the comedic survival game Breathedge 2 concluded that significant changes were necessary for their upcoming title.

The creators recently released a new development diary, announcing a substantial overhaul of the game’s core gameplay. They humorously highlighted the paradoxical situation:

“Watch our hands: the demo version was positively received by those who tried it, it made it onto the list of popular demos at the festival, and received very good ratings on Steam. What does that mean? It means it needs to be thrown out and rebuilt from scratch! Correct. This is what we’ve been actively doing.”

The developers explained that while they successfully addressed many issues from the original Breathedge, such as the “suffocating oxygen timer,” the demo inadvertently “shed its gameplay” in the process.

“The incredible density of dialogues, events, items, and quests simply overloaded players’ brains and masked a nearly complete absence of core mechanics. While this might work for a short test segment, it’s completely unsuitable for a full-fledged ‘survivor’ game.”

Consequently, the team has decided to shift the gameplay’s core focus.

“Previously, the core of progression involved gathering a certain number of resources to reach a conveniently marked quest objective. Now, the emphasis is on overcoming external, global challenges and obstacles. We might see our desired destination but be unable to reach it due to cold, heat, hostile robots, or other impediments. How the player overcomes this problem – by assembling protective gear, rushing through with medkits, or finding an alternative route – is entirely up to them. Resource gathering, of course, will still be present, but it will be more of a mechanical action within a micro-cycle rather than the primary goal itself.”

According to the developers, the quest objectives themselves will be more amorphous, akin to the first game. Players will need to explore their surroundings and “flick switches” to achieve their goals. The crafting system is also being significantly deepened.

Breathedge 2 is currently slated for an Early Access launch in Q3 2026.
