Bungie Prepares Major Nerfs for Marathon: Knives, Sniper Rifles, and Force Fields Targeted

Bungie has announced significant upcoming balance changes for its highly anticipated shooter, Marathon, in direct response to extensive community feedback. The developers are planning to rebalance several in-game mechanics that are currently perceived as overly dominant.

According to Game Director Joe Ziegler, these adjustments will be implemented in two distinct phases: the initial wave of fixes is expected in the very next patch, with the remaining changes to follow approximately one week later.

Among the primary targets for these nerfs are force fields, which developers acknowledge are “too effective and too easy to acquire.” Knives will also face adjustments, as their damage scaling is deemed excessively fast, allowing players to eliminate opponents with undue ease, even in protected zones.

Sniper rifles are also firmly in the developers’ sights; Ziegler specifically noted that they are “too strong in all situations.” Furthermore, Bungie intends to reduce the impact of thermal scopes, which are currently seen as dominating the battlefield.
