The recent update for Resident Evil Requiem has reportedly led to an unexpected downgrade in graphics for PlayStation 5 Pro users. Following the release of patch 1.11, Capcom seemingly disabled ray tracing in the initial section of Raccoon City, a change that was promptly noticed by players and content creators.
While the game still maintains a visual edge over standard console versions, the modifications specifically impact global illumination. Ray tracing was previously crucial for delivering realistic reflections and enhancing the overall atmospheric depth of scenes. The developers’ stated intention for this patch was to mitigate visual noise and artifacts. However, in practice, certain sequences—particularly those featuring diffused lighting on protagonist Leon and in expansive outdoor environments—now appear less visually striking. This outcome represents a compromise: a cleaner image, but at the cost of some of the original ‘wow factor’.
It appears Capcom opted to sacrifice some visual effects to achieve greater stability. This specific issue is currently limited to the first area of the game, suggesting that future patches might address community feedback regarding these graphical adjustments.
