Capcom Releases Original Resident Evil Trilogy on Steam, Honors Classics

PC gamers can now acquire the iconic Resident Evil titles not only via GOG but also directly through Steam.

In early April, Capcom officially launched the first three original games of the Resident Evil series on Steam. These editions, which include various enhancements, were previously available exclusively on GOG.

The gaming community has positively acknowledged Capcom’s approach to naming these classic games, maintaining capitalization and including the release year:

  • Resident Evil (1996)
  • Resident Evil 2 (1998)
  • Resident Evil 3 Nemesis (1999)

This decision appears to be a direct response to the criticism Capcom faced in 2022. At that time, fans expressed significant dissatisfaction when, prior to the release of the Resident Evil 4 remake, the original version’s title was controversially altered to “resident evil 4 (2005),” using lowercase letters, which was widely perceived as a disregard for the classic title.
