The Farm 51, the development studio behind the critically acclaimed original Chernobylite, is currently navigating significant financial challenges. Despite these difficulties, the studio remains operational.
While the first Chernobylite garnered considerable praise, its sequel, Chernobylite 2: Exclusion Zone, faced a vastly different reception. Developers opted for a notable shift in the game’s core concept and artistic style, a decision that unfortunately did not resonate with the player community.
Upon its release, the project was met with widespread criticism. Although the studio subsequently rolled out a series of updates aimed at revamping many aspects of the game, these efforts did little to boost its popularity. The game’s peak concurrent player count on Steam never surpassed its initial launch record of 269 users, and player reviews consistently remain “mixed.”
In April 2026, it was announced that The Farm 51 had filed for bankruptcy. However, this does not signal an immediate closure of the studio. The official documentation clarifies that the filing is “preventive,” a strategic move related to specific provisions within Polish legislation. The developers are currently engaged in negotiations with their creditors to finalize an agreement.
The studio is also actively seeking discussions with potential investors. The goal is to secure the necessary funding not only for the ongoing restructuring process and daily operations but also to facilitate the continued development and refinement of Chernobylite 2: Exclusion Zone, as The Farm 51 hopes to turn the game’s fortunes around.
