Gay revealed that he received an official letter from Sandfall Interactive’s lawyers demanding he cease the promotion and sale of his comic, alleging it “capitalizes on the undeniable success of the game.”
However, Gay presented a different account, explaining that the concept for his comic was pitched to the publisher Drakoo as early as 2019, and the publishing contract was signed in 2024, well before the announcement of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. He asserts that the title “Clair-Obscur” in his work is unrelated to the game and refers to a specific magical technique.
