The visual presentation of battles in Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV has left a strong impression on testers, according to the development team.
Elliot Verbiest, a Senior Game Designer for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV, recently shared insights from the strategy game’s testing phase. He explained that during closed alpha playtests, players frequently requested a slower combat pace.
Verbiest noted that testers expressed a desire to more closely observe and savor the spectacular moments, such as the synchronized takedowns and intricate hand-to-hand combat animations that the developers had implemented.
“We had a couple of closed alpha playtests, and one of the key pieces of feedback that showed us we really had something special was, ‘Hey, could you make combat a little bit longer? We really want to see all these synchronized takedowns and melee engagements that you’ve implemented.’ People found it so impactful that they just wanted to watch it over and over again.”
According to the testers, these visual elements were so impactful and impressive that they felt players should be given more time to fully appreciate their beauty and detail within the fast-paced battles.
