A fascinating discovery reveals that FromSoftware’s classic title, Demon’s Souls, narrowly avoided becoming even more punishing. A design idea that could have significantly increased the game’s notorious difficulty ultimately did not make it into the final release.

Data miner Zullie the Witch, known for her deep dives into FromSoftware games, recently continued her exploration by focusing on flying adversaries within the game’s files.

Utilizing animations that another modder had restored, Zullie the Witch was able to piece together the details of this previously unseen, cut content.

According to her findings, Demon’s Souls was originally planned to feature formidable giant birds. These creatures were designed with a terrifying ability: they could grab players and then drop them from great heights into deadly abysses, presenting a unique and exceptionally challenging hazard.

Many fans reacting to this revelation have expressed relief, with common sentiment suggesting that FromSoftware’s decision to remove this particular enemy “possibly saved the game,” preventing an even steeper difficulty curve in an already notoriously tough title.
