HBO has released the documentary special “Finding Harry: The Craft Behind the Magic,” offering an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the making of the new Harry Potter series.
This film provides an in-depth exploration of the extensive adaptation’s production process, introducing viewers to the main cast and showcasing the meticulous work involved in creating sets, practical effects, costumes, and props. Particular emphasis is placed on the challenging casting process, which saw approximately 32,000 young actors auditioning for the key roles.
The special features both the young lead actors – Dominic McLaughlin (Harry Potter), Arabella Stanton (Hermione Granger), and Alastair Stout (Ron Weasley) – as well as seasoned performers like John Lithgow (Albus Dumbledore), Janet McTeer (Minerva McGonagall), and Paapa Essiedu (Severus Snape). Nick Frost, who will portray Rubeus Hagrid, serves as the narrator.
The Harry Potter series is envisioned as a multi-season project, with each of J.K. Rowling’s seven books receiving its own dedicated screen adaptation. The premiere of the first season, based on Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, is scheduled for Catholic Christmas 2026, specifically December 25th.
