The highly anticipated second season of “Dorohedoro,” the cult anime adaptation of Q Hayashida’s gritty manga, has finally premiered after a six-year hiatus.
Fans can now stream the continuation on both Netflix and Crunchyroll, where the first three new episodes are already available.
Studio MAPPA, responsible for the critically acclaimed first season, once again helms the project, retaining its core creative team. Yuichiro Hayashi returns to direct after concluding his work on “Attack on Titan,” while Hiroshi Seko resumes writing the screenplay. Tomohiro Kishi is back as the character designer, and the musical group (K)NoW_NAME continues to craft the series’ distinctive soundtrack.
“Dorohedoro” adapts the manga of the same name, which Q Hayashida meticulously worked on for nearly two decades, from 2000 to 2018. The story is set in a grim, post-apocalyptic world centered around a city called “The Hole,” a desolate realm where sorcerers from another dimension regularly arrive to conduct horrific experiments on its human inhabitants.
At the heart of the narrative is Caiman, a man with a lizard head who has lost his memory. Alongside Nikaido, the spirited owner of the “Hungry Bug” restaurant, he relentlessly hunts sorcerers, determined to find the one who cursed him into his monstrous form. However, the storytelling goes beyond a simple good-versus-evil dynamic; it masterfully explores multiple facets of the conflict, compelling viewers to continuously re-evaluate their perceptions of the characters.
New episodes are scheduled to release every Wednesday, with a total of 11 episodes planned for the second season.
