EA Cuts Staff at Battlefield Studios Amidst Game’s Performance Issues

Electronic Arts has implemented a new round of layoffs, impacting several studios responsible for the Battlefield series. Employees at Criterion Games, DICE, Ripple Effect Studios, and Motive Studio were affected by the job cuts.

The company cited “resource reallocation” for the franchise’s development as the primary reason for these changes. All affected studios are expected to continue their operations and contribute to the ongoing evolution of the Battlefield universe.

Initially, Battlefield 6 enjoyed a highly successful launch. The game became the best-selling title in the US in 2025, selling approximately 7 million copies within its first three days, marking the strongest debut in the series’ history.

Critical reception for the game was somewhat mixed: the single-player campaign received a lukewarm response from reviewers, while the multiplayer component was generally better received by both critics and players.

However, several months post-release, the game began to face significant challenges. Subsequent updates consistently sparked controversy and dissatisfaction among the player base.

Users frequently criticized alterations to cosmetic items and core movement mechanics. Additionally, there was widespread discontent over aggressive monetization practices and the controversial use of generative AI for the creation of in-game content.

Consequently, user reviews on Steam, which were initially “mostly positive” following the game’s launch, declined to a “mixed” status within a period of three months, reflecting a growing segment of disengaged or disappointed players.
