Escape from Tarkov Battles Cheaters: 25,000 Accounts Banned, Majority Not Direct Cheaters

Battlestate Games has provided an update on its ongoing fight against cheaters and illicit activities in Escape from Tarkov. In a recent developer blog, the studio detailed its efforts and ban statistics for the first quarter of 2026, shedding light on the various reasons behind player account blocks.

From January to March 2026, approximately 25,000 accounts were banned from the game. Interestingly, only 54% of these were directly caught using cheats or forbidden software. The remaining 46% received bans for other serious infractions, including participation in real-money trading (RMT) for in-game items, using bots for progression, scripting, and other unauthorized third-party programs.

The developers also addressed common misconceptions about their ban system. They clarified that bans are issued daily, not just in large waves, and the overall number of compromised accounts and subsequent blocks has consistently risen since the game’s release. While acknowledging that erroneous bans can still occur, Battlestate Games emphasized that their detection system has undergone significant improvements over the past year.

Looking ahead, Battlestate Games plans to strengthen the game’s security even further. Future updates will include the integration of TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot, aiming to make it considerably harder for cheat developers. The team is also exploring the implementation of advanced Windows security features such as VBS (Virtualization-based Security), IOMMU (Input/Output Memory Management Unit), and HVCI (Hypervisor-Enforced Code Integrity), which protect the system at a kernel level.

Moreover, the studio is actively developing new detection methods and a more automated system for identifying rule-breakers. The developers reiterated that combating dishonest players remains a continuous “cat and mouse game.” However, they are committed to reducing the window of time during which cheaters can operate undetected in Escape from Tarkov.
