Crystal Dynamics, Studio Behind Tomb Raider, Reportedly Developing Major Lord of the Rings Game
While previous reports suggested Warhorse, the studio behind Kingdom Come: Deliverance, might be developing a Lord of the Rings title, new information indicates a different studio is involved in a significant Middle-earth project.
Sources suggest that Crystal Dynamics, well-known for their work on the Tomb Raider series, is actively developing a large-scale game set in Middle-earth. It's understood that the team is pursuing this project concurrently with the development of new installments in the Lara Croft saga. This clarifies that while rumors of a Kingdom Come developer's involvement persist, these are understood to be separate endeavors.
This project has reportedly been in development for some time, with preliminary data pointing to significant funding, potentially around $100 million, from the Abu Dhabi Investment Office. The game is said to be ambitious in scale, aiming to rival titles like Hogwarts Legacy. The involvement of Embracer and Revenge further underscores the serious scope of this venture, suggesting it goes beyond a typical licensed product.
Both Embracer and Crystal Dynamics have declined to comment on these reports. Given the project's early stage, an official announcement is not expected in the near future.
