Leo Woodall in Talks to Play Aragorn in 'The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum'
Leo Woodall, known for his role in the second season of "The White Lotus," is reportedly in negotiations to portray a young Aragorn in the upcoming Tolkien-verse film, "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum." According to insider Daniel Richtman, the British actor is discussing a "main male role" in the project. Although the character has not been officially named, it is widely speculated to be Aragorn.
The film's narrative is set approximately two decades before the events of "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring." During this period, Aragorn was known as the ranger Strider and was actively searching for Gollum.
"With the Ring lost and carried away by Bilbo Baggins, Gollum finds himself compelled to leave his cave and set out in search of it. Gandalf the Grey summons Aragorn, still known as the ranger Strider, to track down the elusive creature whose knowledge of the Ring's whereabouts could tip the scales in favor of the Dark Lord Sauron."
Furthermore, journalist Jeff Sneider previously suggested that "The Hunt for Gollum" could be the first installment of a new Tolkien trilogy. While Warner Bros. has not yet confirmed these plans, director Andy Serkis, who will also return to his role as Gollum, has mentioned intentions for at least two films.
Filming for "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum" is scheduled to begin in New Zealand in July 2026. The global premiere of the film is anticipated on December 17, 2027.
