Marvel Zombies Season 2 Actively in Production, Promises Uncharted MCU Territory
Marvel has officially ramped up production for the second season of its standalone series, "Marvel Zombies," which spins off from the "What If...?" universe.
Brad Winderbaum, Head of Marvel Television and Animation, confirmed that work on the "Marvel Zombies" sequel has moved beyond mere conceptual discussions. In an interview on The Escape Pod podcast, Winderbaum revealed he has already viewed early animatics, or rough animated scenes, for the upcoming second season.
"It's insane," Winderbaum stated. "I can't reveal anything, but there are things in there that the MCU has never done before."

This news signifies a major leap forward, especially considering Winderbaum's previous comments in January. At that time, he noted that while showrunner Bryan Andrews was back, the project hadn't yet received a "green light" and was still in the idea-generation phase. The existence of animatics now confirms that the series is in full active development and well into production.
The first season of "Marvel Zombies," which premiered in 2025 on Disney+, stood out as one of the studio's most unconventional ventures. It was Marvel's first animated series specifically rated for adult audiences, expanding on an episode from "What If...?" to present an alternative MCU reality where beloved superheroes succumb to a zombie plague. Despite receiving moderate critical and audience scores on aggregators (around 66%), the series demonstrated strong viewership on Disney+, which ultimately paved the way for Marvel to pursue a continuation.
