Microsoft is set to release Gears of War: E-Day this year, a highly anticipated prequel that will take players back to a pivotal moment in the series’ lore.
This upcoming installment in the iconic third-person shooter franchise will serve as a prequel, detailing the critical “Emergence Day” – the very first day the devastating Locust Horde invaded the planet Sera. Developers have described the project as the most ambitious in the franchise’s history. The game’s narrative will unfold as humanity first grapples with the terrifying threat emerging from beneath the planet’s surface, promising to deliver a darker and more dramatic portrayal of the Gears of War universe.
Amidst the excitement for E-Day, actor Liam McIntyre, who lent his voice to JD Fenix in Gears of War 4 and Gears 5, shared his thoughts on the announcement. He revealed that while a potential Gears 6 was discussed, the team ultimately decided to explore a fresh direction with E-Day.
“We did Gears 4 and 5, and there was a thought about Gears 6. But the team wanted to try something different. And, honestly, it looks great. I hope they return to discussing a sixth installment. I love these guys and I just want them to create a game that they believe truly captures the Gears of War atmosphere everyone loves. That would be amazing. And if that leads to a return to the trilogy, then that would be great.”

Despite the current focus on the prequel, McIntyre openly expressed his hope that a sixth main installment will still materialize in the future, allowing for a continuation of the narrative left by Gears 4 and 5.
