Rain first made his appearance in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. As an unscrupulous warrior and a descendant of the god Argus, he is willing to take any action to achieve his goals. His formidable arsenal includes unparalleled control over the water element, along with partial command over electricity. In combat, Rain utilizes water bubbles, summons lightning, delivers powerful spinning kicks, teleports, and creates water geysers, all to amplify his devastating attacks.

Initially, in the arcade version of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Rain was merely a palette swap of Reptile. However, in the home console versions for Sega Genesis and SNES, he evolved into a fully playable character, taking the place of the removed Sheeva to optimize cartridge space.
