NetEase Games and Shueisha Games have announced the impending closure of their mobile tactical RPG, “unVEIL the world.” The anime gacha title, which saw a regional launch in October 2025, will have its servers officially shut down on May 31, 2026. This means the project will cease operations just seven and a half months after its initial release, and notably, it will not proceed to a global launch.
The decision comes as the project failed to cultivate a sufficient player base to justify its continued existence within five months of its release. As of March 31, 2026, registration for new accounts and in-game purchases have already been discontinued.
Existing players will still be able to download and launch the game until the servers go offline. Following the shutdown, a refund process will be available for any unused premium in-game currency. Players can submit refund requests between June 1, 2026, and August 31, 2026, with reimbursements processed via bank transfers or Google accounts.
This rapid shutdown highlights a common challenge in the competitive mobile gaming market, particularly for gacha titles. While some games, like Genshin Impact or Honkai: Star Rail, achieve massive global success and longevity, countless others struggle to find an audience and often close within their first year. Many projects now even celebrate six-month anniversaries, a stark contrast to the multi-year milestones of enduring hits, underscoring the high rate of attrition in the sector.
