It appears to be only a matter of time.
A former Nintendo employee recently commented on the company’s new pricing strategy, which involves different costs for digital and physical versions of games for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console.
In a recent episode of the Kit & Krysta podcast, the ex-Nintendo staffer, identified as Sean, shared his insights regarding the pricing of both hardware and games. Nintendo had previously announced that, starting in May 2026 with the release of *Yoshi and the Mysterious Book*, all first-party titles for the Nintendo Switch 2 would be offered at a lower recommended price in digital format compared to their physical counterparts.
Honestly, I think the price of the device itself will eventually increase. It seems the company is taking proactive steps to mitigate this, and perhaps lowering the prices of digital games is one way to make a potential console price hike less painful for users.

This new Nintendo policy could, therefore, be part of a broader strategy aimed at balancing software prices with future adjustments to the hardware’s cost.
