Players eagerly anticipating an announcement for Dead by Daylight 2 can now put those expectations to rest. Behaviour Interactive has confirmed it has no plans for a sequel, opting instead to nurture and expand the original game for the foreseeable future.
The game, initially released in 2016, is approaching its 10th anniversary—a milestone that might traditionally suggest the perfect timing for a new installment. However, the studio has chosen a different path. Dave Richard, the Creative Director, elaborated on this decision in a recent interview:
“There comes a moment when we say, ‘Okay, we could make a sequel now.’ And in fact, it would be much easier to start from a blank slate rather than trying to fix the problems that exist in the game currently. But that wouldn’t make sense from the players’ perspective. Not at all. They’ve invested their time and money into Dead by Daylight.”
The company also explored alternative options, including a complete remake, but ultimately decided against them. According to Mathieu Côté, Head of Partnerships at Behaviour Interactive, attempting to develop and sustain two live service games simultaneously is an unfeasible strategy.
“We can make the game live and stay fresh for another decade. That’s exactly what we want. There will definitely not be a Dead by Daylight 2 — players won’t have to start from scratch. But we understand that the game is already 10 years old, and in our industry, that’s a significant amount of time.”
The longevity of the project is sustained by a consistent stream of regular updates and engaging crossovers. Last year, for instance, saw the popular horror title integrate elements from “The Witcher” franchise, ensuring the experience remains vibrant and appealing to its dedicated player base.
