The PlayStation community is likely to welcome Sony’s recent actions, as the company’s teams are reportedly removing references to PC development for their projects.
This development follows reports from journalist Jason Schreier several weeks ago, suggesting PlayStation was considering a shift in its publishing strategy. Schreier indicated that Sony intended to curb PC releases, instead focusing on launching major single-player titles exclusively on PS5 and subsequent console generations.
While Sony and PlayStation have not officially confirmed this strategic pivot, fans have observed significant and seemingly intentional changes to the descriptions of various PlayStation Studios on the official website. Previously, these descriptions often mentioned developing games for PC among other platforms; now, the focus has almost entirely shifted to delivering experiences specifically for PlayStation players.
Many interpret these changes as a strong indicator of a major policy reversal, signaling the return of the “Only on PlayStation” slogan. This suggests that the core projects from Sony’s studios are once again being leveraged to enhance the value proposition of PlayStation consoles.
Updated descriptions include Sony PlayStation XDev:
Was: “Collaborating with ambitious external studios from around the world.”
Is now: “Collaborating with talented independent studios to deliver exciting, exclusive titles for PlayStation players worldwide.”
And Valkyrie Entertainment:
Was: “A highly-regarded studio known for creating high-quality projects across various platforms, from consoles to PC.”
Is now: “Collaborating with PlayStation Studios, bringing first-class co-development expertise to some of the most iconic and award-winning franchises, including ASTRO BOT, Helldivers 2, and God of War.”
