Despite earlier speculation surrounding Margot Robbie’s potential involvement, Johnny Depp may yet reprise his iconic role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the next installment of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” saga.
Jerry Bruckheimer, the esteemed producer behind the blockbuster franchise, has indicated that Depp could indeed return to portray Jack Sparrow in the upcoming film, provided the decision rests with him.
During an interview with The Direct at the Producers Guild Awards, Bruckheimer was directly questioned about prevailing rumors suggesting Depp would be absent from the next “Pirates” movie, with another actor taking the lead role.
“Firstly, that’s simply not true. No, no, no. If it were entirely up to me, Johnny would absolutely be in this film.”
— Jerry Bruckheimer
Previously, in a separate conversation with ET, Bruckheimer had already dismissed rumors about Jack Sparrow’s son becoming the central character of the future film. However, he did hint that Margot Robbie’s participation in the project remains a strong possibility. Depp’s potential comeback now seemingly depends on his own willingness to return to the character. In a 2023 interview, Depp himself stated that “anything is possible,” keeping the door open for his reprisal of the role.
The release date for the new “Pirates” film remains unconfirmed. Bruckheimer noted that its premiere is likely to occur later than initially planned, humorously suggesting that audiences might even see “Top Gun 3” before the sixth chapter of the “Pirates” saga hits theaters.
