Remedy Entertainment has shed light on Control Resonant, clarifying that while the game is a direct sequel set seven years after the original and follows Dylan Faden’s story, it is also designed to be a completely standalone experience.
Creative Director Mikael Kasurinen emphasized this dual nature:
“We call it a sequel, and it really is a sequel, but it’s also an independent product that stands on its own two feet. For me, these games are like two brothers. Each belongs to the same family but has its own identity, desires, and destiny, and they are connected.”
Kasurinen further explained that Dylan’s journey through Manhattan, as he confronts the Hiss and other paranormal threats, is “the opposite of Jesse’s journey.” Unlike Jesse, who found herself trapped within the confines of the Oldest House, Dylan has spent his entire life within those concrete walls and is now experiencing the real world for the very first time.
“It’s a transition from isolation, confinement, a strange place that was normal for him, into the outside world. This world is strange and unusual to him, but familiar to us. And there’s something truly exciting about that.”
The game represents a significant leap forward for the studio, promising an “open” world that offers players the freedom to explore Manhattan, encounter its remaining inhabitants, and uncover its many mysteries.
Remedy has stated that Control Resonant is poised to be their “biggest and most ambitious game” to date.
