Enemies have become significantly more dangerous since the original game.
Remedy Entertainment has shared new details about Control Resonant, a new installment set seven years after the events of the original Control. According to a recent developer diary, the game world has undergone drastic changes: Manhattan lies in ruins, and Dylan Faden must confront impending paranormal catastrophes.
A key new feature will be the overhauled enemies. Senior Gameplay Animator Annika Lehtinen explained that the familiar factions — the Hiss and the Mold — have noticeably evolved. While opponents in the first game were primarily humans with various weapons, enemies are now significantly more complex and diverse, with more pronounced distinctions between factions.
Creative Director Mikael Kasurinen emphasized that the Hiss and Mold remain distinct paranormal forces by nature. They differ not only visually but also in how they influence the surrounding world. The team paid particular attention to the Mold, aiming to portray it not merely as an element of post-apocalyptic nature but as a threat from another dimension.
Lead Gameplay Designer Sergey Mokhov added that enemies in Control Resonant now have clear combat roles and greater variety in form and size. Their behavior forces players to choose the right tools and tactics at the opportune moment, making battles more dynamic and demanding.
Developers stated that the real world also influences these factions, making them more aggressive, unpredictable, and dangerous, thus creating new challenges for players.
Furthermore, the game will introduce “Resonants” — higher-level threat entities. By defeating them, players can return to the “Rift” — a metaphysical space within Dylan’s consciousness — and convert defeated enemies into new abilities.
