Roblox Targets Adult Gamers, Launches Developer Support Programs

Roblox is undergoing a significant transformation, shifting its focus towards adult players. The company has launched two initiatives, Incubator and Jumpstart, designed to empower developers to create more complex and innovative games.

This strategic pivot is supported by statistics revealing that over a quarter of verified Roblox users are aged 18 or older. The company sees this as an opportune moment to introduce a new level of visual sophistication, moving beyond the simple, blocky aesthetics of its past.

The Incubator program is tailored for experienced development teams, offering substantial technical and promotional support. A key requirement for projects in this program is to captivate players with novel mechanics and photorealistic graphics.

Conversely, Jumpstart aims to bolster smaller studios with fresh ideas. There’s a particular demand for branched RPGs, intricate strategies, and dark-themed shooters. Roblox will provide cutting-edge tools, including integrated AI, to streamline the development process. With applications now open, these programs could signal the beginning of a major gaming revolution on the platform.
