Sega Admits: High-Quality Games Don’t Always Guarantee Sales Success

Sega has openly acknowledged that achieving high critical acclaim and receiving positive reviews does not consistently lead to increased sales for its games. The company is now focusing its efforts on enhancing marketing strategies, promotional activities, and subscription models to address this challenge.

During an investor Q&A session, Sega revealed that while the development costs for their key titles are generally lower than those of AAA games, their strength lies in the high-quality ratings these games often receive. Despite this, the company observed that these strong reviews have not yet translated into a significant boost in sales performance.

Recognizing this disparity, Sega is committed to refining its “sales power,” which encompasses its overall marketing and sales mechanisms. The company is actively implementing reforms in this area with the goal of driving higher sales volumes.

Moving forward, Sega plans to more frequently utilize seasonal discounts, special promotions, and introduce new subscription offerings as key initiatives to stimulate growth in game sales.
