Lucasfilm has unveiled a new animated project that delves into Darth Maul’s journey following the events of “The Clone Wars.”
The animated series “Star Wars: Darth Maul: Shadow Lord” premiered on Disney+ with its first two episodes. The series focuses on the period after “The Clone Wars” finale, where Maul endeavors to build his own criminal empire from scratch. Along this path, he encounters a disillusioned Padawan whom he intends to use for his own purposes.
Project creator Dave Filoni previously stated that this series aims to bridge the narrative gap between “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” and “Star Wars Rebels.”
Sam Witwer reprises his role as the voice of the titular character, having previously portrayed Maul in other animated projects. The cast also includes Wagner Moura, Gideon Adlon, Richard Ayoade, and Dennis Haysbert.
While the project’s full rating is still being established, initial viewers have praised its striking visuals, dark tone, and more mature storytelling that explores the galaxy’s criminal underworld.
New episodes will be released two at a time weekly, with the season finale scheduled for May 4th – a significant date for the entire Star Wars franchise.
