Star Wars Eclipse, one of Quantic Dream’s highly anticipated projects, is reportedly facing significant hurdles and potential abandonment. Though announced in 2021, development on the game is progressing at an exceptionally slow pace. Despite a considerable portion of the project being conceptually advanced, sources indicate that very little tangible progress has been made in recent months.
Estimates suggest that the game’s release could still be “several years away,” if it ever sees completion. The deep-seated concerns stem not only from the sluggish development timeline but also from pressing financial risks.
Quantic Dream’s parent company, NetEase, has reportedly scaled back its investments in international ventures, having previously discontinued funding for several other overseas projects. This strategic shift has placed Quantic Dream and its ongoing developments, including Star Wars Eclipse, in a precarious financial situation.

An additional critical factor is the studio’s dependence on the commercial success of its multiplayer title, Spellcasters Chronicles, to secure funding for Star Wars Eclipse. However, Spellcasters Chronicles, which launched into early access in February 2026, has shown underwhelming performance metrics. It achieved a peak concurrent player count of merely 888 and struggles to maintain even 200 users simultaneously on average.
Should Spellcasters Chronicles fail to generate sufficient revenue and achieve commercial viability, NetEase may reassess its investment strategy and potentially withdraw further financial support for Quantic Dream. Such a decision would not only jeopardize the future of Star Wars Eclipse but could also threaten the very existence of the entire studio.
