Uncharted 5 Plans Revealed: Naughty Dog Explored New Game Before COVID

Nathan Drake in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Next month marks the 10th anniversary of the critically acclaimed “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.” The last installments in the beloved PlayStation series were “The Lost Legacy” and “Uncharted 4” itself. Following these, developer Naughty Dog released “The Last of Us Part II” and has since commenced work on their upcoming title, “Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.”

Fans frequently express their longing for Nathan Drake and his adventurous crew of treasure hunters, often wondering if an “Uncharted 5” or a spin-off will ever materialize. It appears that such a possibility was indeed on the table at Naughty Dog.

According to insider Tom Henderson, speaking on the Insider Gaming podcast, the studio had plans for “Uncharted 5” even before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Henderson stated:

This isn’t the first time Naughty Dog has discussed the idea of Uncharted 5. I know there was some planning happening before COVID.

This revelation isn’t entirely surprising; prior to the development of “The Last of Us,” Naughty Dog had also considered revisiting the “Jak and Daxter” franchise. “Uncharted” consistently remains a strong performer and a reliable investment for the studio.

Recent speculation surrounding a potential new “Uncharted” entry was further fueled by a social media post from Shaun Escayg, co-director of “The Lost Legacy.” He shared that he was conducting “research,” with an image showcasing Fort George in Trinidad and Tobago – a location that could potentially feature in a future game.
