US Patent Office Rejects Nintendo’s ‘Summon Subcharacter’ Patent Application

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has officially rejected a patent application submitted by Nintendo. This patent sought to claim exclusive rights over an in-game mechanic where a primary character summons a secondary, or sub-character, to assist them during combat. The denial means Nintendo will not secure intellectual property protection for this specific ‘summon subcharacter and let it fight’ gameplay concept within the United States.
