Voltron Live-Action Film Starring Henry Cavill Set for 2027 Release by Amazon MGM

Despite filming concluding in 2025, Amazon is taking its time with the premiere of the highly anticipated live-action “Voltron” movie.

Amazon MGM has now set an approximate release window for the film. The studio aims for a 2027 release, though an exact premiere date has not yet been specified.

The project has been in development for several years, but production is now complete. Filming commenced in late 2024 in Australia and wrapped up by mid-2025. The movie is currently in the post-production phase.

“Voltron” is a live-action adaptation of the beloved 1980s anime “Voltron: Defender of the Universe,” with Rawson Marshall Thurber (known for “Red Notice”) at the helm as director.

While creators have kept specific plot details under wraps, earlier reports suggested the story begins with a profound tragedy. Following his mother’s death, a teenager from Earth discovers she was one of Voltron’s legendary pilots, who valiantly defended the galaxy from the ruthless tyrant Zarkon. When the antagonist breaks free once more, the young man must step into her formidable shoes and rise to defend the world.

The stellar cast includes Daniel Quinn-Toye, Rita Ora, Alba Baptista, Samson Kayo, Laura Gordon, Tim Griffin, and Nathan Jones. Henry Cavill will portray King Alfor of Altea, the deceased girl’s father and the original creator of the Voltron lions, while Sterling K. Brown is set to embody the main antagonist.
