“Xenonauts 2,” a turn-based tactical game that draws heavy inspiration from the classic XCOM series, has officially launched its full version on PC via Steam. The title’s development began in 2015, and it had been available in early access for several years before its recent complete release.
The game’s storyline unfolds in an alternate 2009 where the Cold War persists, and humanity faces a mysterious and rapidly escalating alien threat. Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) and strange creatures are being reported globally, accompanied by unexplained disappearances and a surge in international conflicts. As the extraterrestrial invaders grow increasingly bold, humanity finds itself running out of time to mount an effective defense.
Players are tasked with establishing and expanding a network of operational bases around the world. These facilities are vital for providing soldiers with rest and resupply, as well as for researching captured alien technology and analyzing extraterrestrial beings. Every strategic decision made in the game carries significant, long-term consequences, ensuring that each playthrough offers a unique progression of events and challenges the player’s adaptability.
Xenonauts 2 has garnered “Very Positive” reviews on Steam, reflecting a strong reception from its player base. It is a standalone project, meaning that prior experience with the first Xenonauts game is not necessary to fully enjoy this new installment.
