The prominent video game development studio Eidos Montréal has confirmed a significant round of layoffs, impacting 124 members of its team. In an official statement released via LinkedIn, the company attributed these job reductions to “changes in project needs and their resulting influence on production and support teams.”
Adding to the news, David Anfossi, who served as the head of Eidos Montréal, has also announced his departure. Anfossi boasts a career spanning nearly two decades with the company, notably contributing as a producer for *Deus Ex: Human Revolution* and assuming the role of studio head in 2013. Eidos Montréal conveyed its gratitude for his extensive contributions during his tenure and indicated that a plan is already in development to facilitate the transition of leadership to a new successor.
This latest organizational change follows earlier reports concerning the cancellation of a game set in the *Legacy of Kain* universe, an event that also led to previous staff reductions. It remains unconfirmed whether the current wave of layoffs is directly linked to those prior cuts or constitutes a distinct, new phase of downsizing.
In recent years, Eidos Montréal has encountered difficulties in consistently launching new major projects. Their last fully developed and critically acclaimed title was *Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy* (2021). Following its release, the studio’s team provided support for the game *Fable*. However, similar layoffs occurred approximately one year ago, in March, after the completion of that contract.
