5 Years of Silence: Square Enix Disappoints Fans with Kingdom Hearts 4 Development News
Fans of the beloved Kingdom Hearts series will need to arm themselves with extraordinary patience. Two years have passed since the announcement of Kingdom Hearts IV in April 2022, yet the project has received no new materials or any specific details regarding its release date. This prolonged silence has caused considerable concern within the gaming community.
A small but significant hint about the future development plans was provided by the series director himself, Tetsuya Nomura. To mark the franchise's 24th anniversary, a commemorative illustration was released, accompanied by a message from the creator. In it, Nomura mentioned that the teams are actively working with the series' 25th anniversary in mind, which falls in March 2027.
This comment strongly suggests that the first fresh details about the game might be unveiled around this milestone anniversary. If so, the gap in public communication since the initial announcement will stretch to a full five years. Currently, gameplay details and the exact release date remain a mystery. The studio appears to be entirely focused on refining the project before its next major presentation.
Kingdom Hearts IV is expected to launch on next-generation consoles – PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. For now, fans can only await official announcements from Square Enix, which are likely to emerge closer to the significant anniversary date.
