AMD and Microsoft Detail FSR Diamond's Deep Integration with Project Helix
AMD and Microsoft have unveiled significant details regarding their extensive collaboration on Project Helix, spotlighting a new iteration of the FidelityFX Super Resolution upscaling technology, named FSR Diamond.
Jack Huynh, AMD's Senior Vice President and head of computing and graphics, stated that FSR Diamond has been "deeply integrated" into the development kit for Microsoft's forthcoming console and is specifically optimized for its underlying architecture. He described this multi-year partnership with Xbox as a commitment to delivering "breakthrough next-generation graphics and performance," while simultaneously ensuring backward compatibility with the existing library of games.
While specific technical details for FSR Diamond are yet to be fully disclosed, it is known that the technology is designed with a focus on neural rendering, machine learning-driven upscaling, multiframe generation, and enhanced ray tracing capabilities. The multiframe generation aspect is poised to be a pivotal new feature; unlike previous FSR versions that could only insert one additional frame between two original ones, the new iteration promises a significantly more sophisticated system.
This advancement positions AMD to catch up with its competitor, Nvidia, whose multiframe generation has been a core component of DLSS since the release of DLSS 4 and continues to evolve.
