Bethesda Veteran Acknowledges Fallout: New Vegas Better Captured Franchise Spirit
Fallout: New Vegas remains a beloved title for many fans of the series, who frequently call for a remastered version. It turns out that this sentiment isn't exclusive to the gaming community.
A recent KIWI TALKZ podcast featuring Jonah Lobe, an artist who worked on Fallout 3 and 4, shed light on the long-standing comparison between the games. Lobe admitted that he previously felt resentful when New Vegas was pitted against Bethesda's projects. He recalled:
We created 90% of the visuals, built the engine, accomplished this in a very short time, and put in a lot of effort, while they [Obsidian] just had to work on the story.
However, his perspective has evolved over time. Lobe now acknowledges that Obsidian Entertainment managed to "preserve the spirit of Fallout" and, in his opinion, did so "in some ways even better than we [Bethesda] did."
Another veteran, Nate Purkeypile, who worked on Fallout 3, 4, and 76, also shared his thoughts on New Vegas. He highly praised the game's faction system but also pointed out its shortcomings:
I think [New Vegas] is a really good game, but it's weaker in some areas. I don't think the dungeons and world design are as good.
