Bloomberg Uncovers Nintendo Switch 2 Redesign and Production Adjustments
According to a report from Bloomberg, Nintendo is scaling back its production volumes for the upcoming Switch 2 console while simultaneously preparing for the release of an updated model.
It was revealed last week that the Japanese company is actively working on a new version of the device, with anticipated changes extending beyond mere cosmetic enhancements. The company is reportedly developing a variant featuring a removable battery, a direct response to emerging European Union regulations concerning product reparability and sustainability.
The publication further confirmed that the revised Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to hit the market during the next fiscal year, specifically between March 31, 2026, and April 1, 2027. This launch timeline appears closer than initially speculated, indicating Nintendo is accelerating its efforts to align the console's hardware with European legal requirements.
However, this isn't the sole significant strategic adjustment for Nintendo. Bloomberg also discloses that the company has reduced its Switch 2 production targets due to lower-than-expected demand, particularly in the United States. For the current quarter, Nintendo plans to manufacture approximately 4 million consoles, a notable reduction from the originally projected 6 million units.
This situation comes as a surprise to many, given that the console initially achieved record-breaking sales figures before experiencing a subsequent decline. President Shuntaro Furukawa has openly acknowledged that sales performance outside of Japan has been "weaker than expectations."
