Pearl Abyss, the studio behind the highly anticipated game Crimson Desert, is actively considering the integration of a multiplayer mode. However, this addition would come at the cost of significant technical compromises, as revealed by the company's development plans.

The development team has previously experimented with implementing a multiplayer feature. Current technical constraints indicate that certain graphical elements of the game would need to be scaled back to ensure stable performance for a wide range of hardware when running the multiplayer mode. This means players might see a reduction in visual fidelity to accommodate the online functionality.

Beyond multiplayer, Pearl Abyss management also discussed their approach to future game expansions. While paid add-ons traditionally contribute to revenue growth, the CEO highlighted a primary focus on boosting sales of the base game. The strategy suggests that expanding the game's content will primarily aim to stimulate ongoing interest in the original release, rather than heavily relying on paid downloadable content.
