Death Stranding 2: On the Beach Simplified – Developers Explain Accessibility Changes
The creators of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach have streamlined certain world-building elements with the goal of encouraging more players to complete the main narrative. According to Hiraoki Yoshiike, the lead level designer, this decision was directly influenced by game director Hideo Kojima.
Developers felt that the initial installment of the franchise featured an overly prolonged introduction to its world and mechanics. Feedback indicated that this often slowed down the game's overall pace. For the sequel, the focus has shifted towards more accessible storytelling, while still offering rich, detailed content for those who wish to delve deeper into its intricacies.
"Kojima's primary aim was for a larger number of players to experience the entire game. With Death Stranding 2, we didn't feel the need to expand the game world as extensively as before. While dedicated players will still uncover a wealth of additional details, others can now follow the story more swiftly and efficiently."
The development team notes that these adjustments are already yielding positive results. Internal data suggests that players are progressing further into the narrative of the sequel compared to the original game. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is anticipated for release on PS5 in 2025, with a PC launch expected in March 2026.
