Digital Foundry Slams Crimson Desert PS5 60 FPS Mode: 'Shockingly Blurry'
Experts at Digital Foundry have thoroughly examined the PlayStation 5 version of Crimson Desert, and their findings regarding its performance were highly discouraging. The 60 FPS performance mode, in particular, was labeled as "terrible."
The criticism from the specialists extends beyond mere frame rate drops. Their primary concern is the catastrophic level of image blur present in the game.
“Oh my God, how blurry this is. There's no FSR here. It looks like basic TAA at 1080p, and it's awful. I was genuinely shocked. Looking at it on my OLED TV, I thought it was 720p. It reminded me of those instances where I ran very blurry games on the original Switch – it has the same presentation. The quality difference between the PS5 and PS5 Pro is enormous, the biggest I've seen so far. The Pro delivers significantly better performance and incomparably superior image quality.”
The disparity in visual quality between the base console and the PS5 Pro is described as colossal. According to the experts, the "Pro offers significantly better performance and infinitely better visual quality."
Rendering issues at 1080p had previously been observed in the PC version as well, raising questions about whether the game engine truly delivers the advertised resolution, given how poor the visuals appear. Digital Foundry's recommendation is straightforward: on the standard PS5, players should stick to 30 or 40 FPS. The 60 FPS mode is only advisable for those playing on a PS5 Pro.
