Digital Foundry's Verdict on Super Mario Bros. Wonder's Updated Version
Digital Foundry has conducted a thorough analysis of the updated version of Nintendo's acclaimed title, Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Their assessment hails the Switch 2 Edition as potentially the most visually stunning 2D game in the company's history, despite acknowledging a few minor imperfections.
A standout feature of this release is its native 4K resolution support when played on a television. The decision to forgo artificial edge smoothing has been widely praised, resulting in a 2D presentation that boasts exceptional clarity and perfectly rendered details for every character, including the iconic plumber himself.
While the game generally delivers smooth performance and eliminates previous frame rate drops on the world map, reviewers expressed some disappointment. The project runs at a consistent 60 frames per second (FPS), but surprisingly lacks support for 120 FPS technology, a feature Nintendo had previously promoted quite enthusiastically.
A significant innovation comes in the form of robust new offerings for multiplayer enthusiasts. The game introduces "Bella Park," a zone reminiscent of Nintendo Land, featuring a new collection of mini-games such as hide-and-seek and collaborative level building.
For players who prefer solo adventures, a few modest additional stages have been included. The overall consensus is that for fans of local co-op and "couch gaming," this updated version is an essential purchase.
