Former Blizzard Head Criticizes Crimson Desert Developers for Apologizing Over AI Art Use
Mike Ybarra, the former president of Blizzard, has expressed his bewilderment regarding the apology issued by Pearl Abyss, the creators of the game Crimson Desert, for incorporating artificial intelligence-generated elements into their project. Gamers recently discovered AI-created art in the game's release version, prompting the developers to quickly apologize.
Ybarra sharply reacted to the situation on social media, stating:
"What is there to apologize for? AI, in one form or another, will inevitably be part of every video game. I don't understand why developers yield to a handful of people unable to accept reality: artificial intelligence will be everywhere – from games to your refrigerator (it's already there). Get a grip."
During the discussion, one user sarcastically remarked: "Glad you're not running Blizzard anymore."
To this, Mike Ybarra retorted: "I hope you enjoy the AI Co-pilot in World of Warcraft," subtly hinting at the influence of Microsoft, which now oversees Blizzard and actively integrates AI technologies into its gaming products.
