God of War Creator Sees Antisemitism in Crimson Desert Character, Faces Backlash
David Jaffe, the acclaimed creator of God of War, recently encountered the highly anticipated game Crimson Desert and expressed strong reservations about one of its character designs. Jaffe specifically took issue with the appearance of a goblin encountered during the main story quests, stating:
I really like Crimson Desert. But... what is this, Crimson Desert developers? ...this looks like antisemitism, or at least it feels like it. Of course, it's your right. I respect your right to do this, but I don't have to like it. The nose, his position, the quest title [with mention of 'greed'], and the 'Goldleaf' organization — it's like Goldberg.
However, Jaffe himself quickly faced a wave of criticism. Some players argued that by connecting 'large nose' and 'greed' to Jewish people, the developer's post inadvertently demonstrated an example of antisemitism:
Oh come on, seriously — it's a goblin, for crying out loud. This is exactly why many mock Western developers: you really can't separate the fictional world from reality.
