In Mouse: P.I. For Hire, You Can't Break the Plot, But You Can Get Everything Wrong
Mouse: P.I. For Hire distinguishes itself with a unique art style and robust shooter mechanics, yet at its heart lies a compelling detective narrative. Players take on the role of Jack Pepper, a mouse private investigator, tasked with unraveling cases of missing persons.
Despite featuring an investigation board reminiscent of titles like Alan Wake 2, the underlying story structure is designed to be more straightforward. Mateusz Michalak, head of Fumi Games, elaborated:
“Although in some cases you can explore levels and complete individual cases in a chosen order, the story in Mouse: P.I. For Hire remains relatively linear. But that doesn't mean you can't come to wrong conclusions! As you gather clues and evidence, you might think you know the answers and how everything will end, but several plot twists await you along the way…”
The developer also clarified the game's approach to its environments:
“Most levels in Mouse: P.I. For Hire must be visited to complete the main story – so yes, you will visit them all! There are additional quests, but these are usually completed within the same levels, rather than in separate new locations.”
The game masterfully blends a linear storyline with engaging investigative elements. Crucially, player errors in deduction or interpretation do not halt progression but instead significantly influence their perception of the unfolding narrative, thanks to cleverly designed plot twists and turns.
