Leak: AMD's New Integrated Graphics Could Outperform Entry-Level Discrete GPUs

AMD is actively developing software for its upcoming integrated graphics solutions. Recent updates to the LLVM compiler for Linux have revealed new hardware identifiers: GFX1171 and GFX1172. These discoveries complement the previously found GFX1170, indicating that the company is working on an extensive lineup of devices based on the RDNA 4m architecture.

Analysis of the code suggests that this family of graphics accelerators represents a technological evolution of the current generation, positioned between RDNA 3.5 and the full RDNA 4. Although internally classified as GFX11, these new cores incorporate instructions characteristic of more modern solutions.

Key innovations include hardware support for FP8 and BF8 data formats, as well as WMMA matrix operations. These enhancements are crucial for artificial intelligence tasks, particularly for the future FSR 4 upscaling technology, which is expected to heavily rely on neural networks and machine learning.

It is anticipated that RDNA 4m integrated graphics will be featured in Medusa Point mobile processors, built on Zen 6 cores, succeeding the current Strix Point chips. Simultaneously, AMD continues the development of its high-end Medusa Halo series. These solutions promise a significant generational leap, utilizing RDNA 5 architecture and high-speed LPDDR6 memory.
