Microsoft Encourages PC Game Development, Windows 11 to Get Xbox Mode in April
Microsoft emphasizes that the development of next-generation games should primarily focus on personal computers.
At the Game Developers Conference 2026, Microsoft representatives informed developers that the most effective way to create games for Xbox in the future is to develop them for PC.
Xbox Vice President Jason Ronald also announced a further step towards deeper integration of the console ecosystem with PCs. According to him, the Xbox FSE (Full Screen Experience) interface, already utilized on portable devices like ROG Ally and ROG Ally X, will be rolled out to all Windows 11 devices starting in April 2026. The deployment will begin in select regions before becoming globally available.
This interface will allow players to seamlessly switch between work tasks and gaming, offering a full-screen Xbox experience optimized for controllers, while maintaining the openness and flexibility of the Windows ecosystem.
"We see PC becoming an increasingly significant part of the Xbox ecosystem. We are integrating the best elements of Xbox directly into Windows to make it an ideal operating system for gaming."
