PSSR 2.0 vs DLSS 4.5: Sony Narrows the Gap, but NVIDIA Still Leads
The latest update for the PS5 Pro has significantly enhanced image quality in numerous games. This raises the question: how does Sony's updated PSSR 2.0 technology stack up against NVIDIA's DLSS 4.5? A video blogger conducted a detailed comparison to find out.
Many players have responded positively to PSSR 2.0, noting that Sony has finally begun to unlock the console's full potential. The technology has improved image stability and clarity of details. The comparison concluded that while DLSS 4.5 (especially with the 'L' model) generally still looks superior, Sony has considerably closed the distance. Just a few months ago, this rivalry seemed much more one-sided.
However, there are exceptions. In Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, PSSR 2.0 occasionally performs better than NVIDIA's solution. Conversely, Silent Hill 2 Remake still exposes some weaknesses of Sony's upscaler: when scaling from Performance mode on the PS5 Pro, artifacts are visible in puddle reflections and ambient occlusion areas.
Ultimately, PSSR 2.0 represents a huge step forward compared to its initial implementation on the PS5 Pro, even if DLSS 4.5 remains the benchmark. This is excellent news for console owners, as the quality gap is no longer critical, and in certain projects, Sony demonstrates a high level of visual fidelity.
