Return to Hogwarts: HBO Unveils Teaser and Premiere Date for "Harry Potter" Series
Fans of "Harry Potter" can now get their first glimpse of the new adaptation of the iconic story from HBO and Warner Bros. Discovery. The companies have officially presented the initial details of the series, with its first season titled "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone." It will faithfully follow the events of the first book: Harry, raised by the Dursleys, discovers his magical heritage, enrolls at Hogwarts, finds loyal friends, and confronts a danger connected to his mysterious past.
The series is scheduled to premiere on December 25, 2026. This announcement contradicts earlier statements by HBO chief Casey Bloys, who had suggested the project would debut in the first half of 2027. The shift to a Christmas release period is seemingly intended to strengthen the franchise's connection, as it is traditionally associated with the festive season for many viewers.
Released concurrently with the announcement was a debut teaser, offering a look at the reimagined wizarding world and introducing the new main cast. The clip features Dominic McLaughlin as Harry, Alastair Stout as Ron, Arabella Stanton as Hermione, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, and Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall. Viewers will also catch a glimpse of Hogwarts itself.
Francesca Gardiner serves as the showrunner, and Mark Mylod is the director; both previously worked on the successful series "Succession." J.K. Rowling is involved in the project as an executive producer. The series is planned as an ambitious, long-term adaptation of the entire book series, intended to span over a decade.
