Starfield on Nintendo Switch 2: Development Continues Amid Challenges
Following recent rumors of a potential port cancellation, a renewed glimmer of hope has emerged for Bethesda's expansive space RPG, Starfield, to eventually land on the Nintendo Switch 2. While Starfield, an Xbox Game Studios title, is already confirmed for a PlayStation 5 release on April 7th, insider reports suggest that a version for Nintendo's upcoming console is indeed in active development, despite earlier pessimistic forecasts.
According to insider NateTheHate, development is ongoing, though he notes it hasn't been a smooth process. This update comes after another prominent insider, shinobi602, stated last month that the port had been "delayed" and "might not be released at all." It appears Bethesda remains committed to the endeavor, but a definitive release remains without guarantees.
Bringing large-scale titles to the Switch 2 presents considerable challenges for many studios, as evidenced by difficulties faced by Gearbox with Borderlands 4. While Bethesda has a track record of successfully porting anniversary editions of Skyrim and Fallout 4, Starfield's sheer scale and technical demands represent a significantly greater undertaking. The situation is further complicated by the game's upcoming "Free Lanes" update.
