Starry Studio, the developer behind the post-apocalyptic MMO Once Human, has encountered significant backlash following a series of promotional videos entirely generated by artificial intelligence. Social media users have sharply criticized these videos, pointing not only to their AI origin but also to the weak connection between the displayed content and the actual game.
For instance, one minute-long video depicts a human camp in a desert being attacked by a mechanical monster known as a "Devourer." However, Once Human does not feature desert locations, and commentators have described the video's quality as "cheap and disgusting."
The situation is exacerbated by the fact that this is not an isolated incident. The studio has released similar AI-generated clips for several consecutive days:
- On March 20, a video featuring an underwater scene and exploration of a destroyed subway was published.
